SCORING:  Large SATB chorus, accompanied by a large pops orchestra —
See the “Instrumentation” tab below.  /  DURATION:  ca. 3:30

DIFFICULTY:  While the choral parts are not difficult, the instrumental parts are fairly challenging, so I recommend that this piece be performed only by professional players.

NOTE:  This arrangement is also available with chamber orch. acc.

DESCRIPTION

This is a dramatic “Hollywood-style” setting of the popular carol, and would make a perfect closing number for your holiday concert.

One of the distinguishing features of this arrangement is the playful fugue in the second verse. The third verse ends the piece on a grand, thrilling note.

TEXT INFO

Joy to the World

Words by Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

Complete text:

Joy to the world!  The Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King!
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room,
And heav'n and nature sing.

Joy to the world!  The Savior reigns!
Let us our songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love.
