DESCRIPTION
This hymn arrangement makes effective use of a small chamber orchestra (with organ) and makes the group sound bigger than it is. Each verse has a varied treatment, with the fourth and final verse sounding very grand and majestic.
The congregation and choir sing the melody in unison throughout, allowing the orchestra to provide drama and unusual harmonies.
The chamber orchestra called for is similar to what you might already be using for a piece like Handel's Messiah or Vivaldi's Gloria.
INSTRUMENTATION
WOODWINDS: 1 Oboe, 1 Bassoon
BRASS: 2 Trumpets in C
ORGAN
STRINGS: A minimum of 3, 3, 2, 1, 1
TEXT INFO
Words by Edward Perronet, 1779
Complete text:
All hail the power of Jesus' Name!
Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Ye seed of Israel's chosen race,
Ye ransomed of the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all.
O that, with yonder sacred throng,
We at his feet may fall;
We'll join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.
REVIEWS
Audience comment:
“Wow! That was one powerful hymn setting we sang today! It sure sounded like a bigger orchestra than the one we actually had!”
