DESCRIPTION

In this original composition, the lilting melody and the repeated, gently-rolled chords in the piano part combine to create a lulling effect that's perfect for a lullaby.

This piece is technically rather easy for the singers, but provides them an opportunity to be quite expressive with the melodic line.

TEXT INFO

Balulalow  (O My Dear Heart)

Anonymous 16th-century poem

Complete text:

O, my dear heart, young Jesus sweet,
Prepare thy cradle in my spreit,   [“spreit” = spirit, and is pronounced “spreet”]
And I shall rock thee in my heart,
And never more from thee depart.

But I shall praise thee evermore,
With songès sweet unto thy gloir.   [“gloir” = glory, and is pronounced “glor”]
The knees of my heart shall I bow,
And sing that sweet Balulalow.   [“Balulalow” = lullaby]

O, my dear heart, young Jesus sweet,
Prepare thy cradle in my spreit,
And I shall rock thee in my heart,
And never more from thee depart.
