DESCRIPTION
Even though I love the traditional folk tune from Wales, I wanted to create a completely original composition using the well-known text.
This new piece is fresh and contemporary sounding, but is still gentle and flowing, as you'd expect from a lullaby.
TEXT INFO
All Through the Night
Verses 1 & 2: Traditional Welsh, translated by Sir Harold Boulton (1884)
Verse 3: Anonymous
Complete text:
Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee,
All through the night.
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night.
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping,
I my loving vigil keeping,
All through the night.
While the moon her watch is keeping,
All through the night.
While the weary world is sleeping,
All through the night.
O'er thy spirit gently stealing,
Visions of delight revealing,
Breathes a pure and holy feeling,
All through the night.
Star of faith the dark adorning,
All through the night.
Leads us fearless towards the morning,
All through the night.
Though our hearts be wrapt in sorrow,
From the hope of dawn we borrow
Promise of a glad tomorrow,
All through the night.
